Brief description of the project:

The RuBIO project aims to stimulate innovation and economic development in the rural areas of the Danube Region through the deployment of solutions, in particular in the fields of biotechnology and biomaterials. By supporting entrepreneurs and businesses, RuBIO addresses key challenges such as depopulation, ageing population, lack of skilled labour and development disparities between the Western and Eastern regions. The initiative aims to create sustainable and dynamic rural communities by encouraging the introduction of innovative practices, strengthening entrepreneurship and reducing infrastructure and development disparities within the Danube Region.

In line with Priority 8 of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, RuBIO brings together the expertise of the Innovation, Technology Transfer and Circular Bioeconomy Working Groups and builds resilient biology-based ecosystems. By addressing labour migration to urban environments and promoting rural revitalisation, the initiative improves employment opportunities, quality of life and long-term sustainable development. Through long-term partnerships and cooperation, RuBIO is building the foundations for a more inclusive, competitive and sustainable economy ready to meet future challenges across the Danube region.
