Prof. Dr. Janez Povh

I am Prof. Dr. Janez Povh, PhD, BSc Mathematics, and I will be the Director of the Rudolfovo Public Research Institute from 1 September 2022. Previously, I was Dean of the Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto, and then I developed research excellence as a member and head of the LeCAD Laboratory at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana.

My research work focuses on the development of methods and tools for solving complex mathematical optimization problems and on the analysis and modelling of big data. Due to the high computational complexity of these areas, my work uses supercomputers in Slovenia and the European Union, and in recent years I have also been exploring the possibilities of quantum computers, especially those based on quantum annealing and the phenomenon of quantum tunneling.

I also head the Digitalisation Centre, where I direct activities to develop innovative digital solutions. My aim is to contribute to scientific and technological progress in the field of digitisation and quantum computing.
