European Researchers’ Night 2026: Join the Rhythm of Science
On Friday, 25 September 2026, European Researchers’ Night will bring visitors and researchers together at more than 100 events across Slovenia. As part of the RhythmOfLife project, Rudolfovo is organising an Open Day, a lecture on 3D scanning, and a Chess960 tournament. All events are free of charge.
What rhythms shape nature, society, and our everyday lives? How does science help us understand the world around us? The RhythmOfLife project – Exploring Rhythms in Nature and Human Life, in which Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto participates, invites you to discover the answers through experiments, workshops, interactive presentations, and conversations with researchers.
Across Slovenia, laboratories, museums, research institutions, parks, and other places of learning will open their doors. Visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to try their hand at research, explore spaces usually closed to the public, and meet the people behind scientific discoveries. Some activities will continue on Saturday, 26 September.

Rudolfovo Open Day
16:30–18:30 | Rudolfovo, Podbreznik 15, Novo mesto
We will open the doors to our research laboratories, where you can take part in scientific demonstrations and meet our researchers to learn about their work. Rudolfovo’s five research centres will showcase their activities in advanced technologies and digitalisation, the circular economy, technology transfer, entrepreneurship and intellectual property, and applied quantum computing.

The Rhythm of Progress: 3D Scanning - From Industry to Heritage
18:00 | Event Atrium, Miran Jarc Library, Novo mesto
How do we scan an object in three dimensions and use the measurements to create an accurate digital model? This lecture will introduce the process of 3D scanning and its applications in industry, as well as in the digital documentation and preservation of cultural heritage objects. The lecture will be followed by a moderated discussion.
In the Rhythm of Chess Pieces: Chess960 Tournament - Creative Play with Familiar Rules
18:00 | Classroom, Miran Jarc Library, Novo mesto
Rudolfovo and the KRKA Novo mesto Chess Club are organising a Chess960 tournament for beginners, enthusiasts, and experienced chess players.
In this chess variant, the starting position of the pieces is selected from 960 possibilities. Players cannot rely solely on established opening theory; instead, they must think independently, recognise new patterns, and adapt to unexpected positions.
