Rudolfovo at the CSASC 2026 Conference in Plzen

From 2 to 6 February 2026, the traditional CSASC 2026 conference took place in Plzeň (Czech Republic) – a joint meeting of the mathematical societies of Czechia, Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia, and Catalonia. First held in Prague in 2010, the conference remains an important forum for professional exchange through plenary lectures and thematic minisymposia led by renowned experts from various fields of mathematics.

Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto was represented at this year’s conference by Mila Nedić, Dr. Roman Kužel, and Prof. Dr. Janez Povh.

The Workshop 08 “Mathematics for Quantum Computing” was co-organized by the Institute’s Director, Prof. Dr. Janez Povh, together with Marek Lampart (Technical University of Ostrava) and Martin Plesch (Slovak Academy of Sciences). The workshop focused on mathematical aspects of quantum computing, highlighting how numerical algorithms, mathematical modelling, and advanced problem-solving approaches contribute to the development of quantum technologies, including areas such as quantum machine learning.

Rudolfovo researchers presented the following contributions within the workshop:

  • Mila Nedić: Improved and Tighter Semidefinite Relaxation Bounds for Constrained QUBOs

  • Dr. Roman Kužel: The Critical Role of Encoding Strategies in QUBO Formulations: A Case Study on the Sparsest k-Subgraph Problem

  • Prof. Dr. Janez Povh: Hybrid HPC-Quantum Exact Solver for Combinatorial Optimization Problems

Participation in CSASC 2026 provided an opportunity to present Rudolfovo’s research in an international academic setting and to strengthen connections that support further collaboration in the fields of mathematics, computer science, and quantum technologies.
