As part of the Culinary Trail – Ethnic and Local Cuisine in the Danube Region development and research project, the Center for Advanced Technologies team has developed a demo VR application that introduces visitors to the region's rich culinary heritage in an innovative way.

The application, developed using the Unity game engine, includes two main scenes:

  • Boat trip on the Krka River in Otočec with the option to view traditional dishes from the project's online catalog. Filtering dishes by country and ethnic group, displaying descriptions, recipes, and calorie counts with advice on how many steps are needed to burn them off.

  • Conversation with AI avatar Amelia on a food cart designed using the Convai platform and equipped with the project's culinary database.

The environment was filmed with a 360° camera, which even required the courage of a colleague who went into the river to get the perfect shot.

The Culinary Trail project, which runs from January 1, 2024, to July 1, 2026, brings together 19 consortium partners from the Danube region. It focuses on preserving and promoting the culinary heritage of 30 ethnic groups, including the collection and digitization of recipes and stories, the development of a transnational culinary trail, the preparation of strategies to protect this heritage, and the establishment of a joint demonstration and training center.
