On 5 November 2026, Rudolfovo will host Slovenian and international quantum computing experts. The second Slovenian forum will bring together research advances, potential applications and the development of in-house quantum computing capabilities.

What can quantum computers do today, which problems can they solve, and what does it take to establish in-house quantum computing infrastructure? These questions will be at the heart of the 2nd Slovenian Quantum Computing Forum: From Research Advances to In-House Quantum Computing Capabilities, organised by Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto in cooperation with Qutes.

The forum will take place on Thursday, 5 November 2026, from 9:00 to 14:15 in Room K04 at Podbreznik 15, Novo mesto. Registration and networking over coffee will begin at 8:30, followed by lunch and further networking after the programme.

From research advances to practical applications

Slovenian and international experts will present recent research findings, potential applications of quantum computing in science and industry, and experience in establishing quantum computing infrastructure. The programme will offer insights into quantum optimisation, hybrid solvers for challenging problems and the development of Slovenia’s quantum computing capabilities.

The invited talks will be delivered by Dr David Rabanus from Forschungszentrum Jülich, who will discuss how to establish in-house quantum computing infrastructure, and Jakub Pawłowski from Wrocław University of Science and Technology, who will explore how to close the quantum-classical scaling gap in approximate optimisation.

Further presentations will focus on QUBO formulations, quantum annealing, hybrid approaches to optimisation and the road to Slovenia’s first quantum computer. Speakers will also discuss the importance of development, testing and standardisation in building trust in quantum technologies, as well as the social expectations that influence their development.

Contributors will include representatives of Rudolfovo, the Jožef Stefan Institute, the HUN-REN Wigner Research Centre for Physics, the Ruđer Bošković Institute, AtomQL and LOTRIČ Metrology, as well as an IBM Quantum Ambassador.

European and Slovenian strategic priorities

The forum will open with a welcome address by Professor Janez Povh, Director of Rudolfovo. Andrej Vastl, Acting Director-General of the Science Directorate at the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth, will present Slovenia’s national priorities in quantum computing, while Anamarija Meglič, from the same ministry, will introduce the European strategy for quantum technologies.

The event is part of Science Month and marks World Science Day for Peace and Development, observed on 10 November, which highlights the importance of science for society and encourages closer connections between researchers and the wider public.

Registration

Researchers, industry representatives, students and anyone interested in the development of quantum computing, its potential applications and the future of the field in Slovenia are warmly invited to attend.

Places are limited, so advance registration is required.
