INVITATION

We cordially invite you to the 3rd national event of the project "SPOZNAJ – Support for the introduction of open science principles in Slovenia," which will take place on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto and online (Zoom).

The SPOZNAJ project, co-financed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the European Union – NextGenerationEU, brings together the Central Technical Library of the University of Ljubljana and 20 Slovenian public research organizations in introducing the principles of open science in accordance with national legislation and European Research Area practices. After two years, the project has already yielded visible results: numerous training courses on open science practices and research sharing according to FAIR principles have been conducted, two professional handbooks have been published, and the first comprehensive training for data professionals in Slovenia is continuing.

This year's national meeting will be dedicated to research security and the challenges of maintaining academic freedom and enabling universities and research organizations to continue to fulfill their key role in society in times of uncertainty and rapidly changing geopolitical conditions. The focus will be on finding a balance between openness and the protection of sensitive knowledge, data, and technologies, while also connecting with the economy and industry, where knowledge security is becoming increasingly important.

Speakers from Slovenia and abroad will present German and Dutch policies and support structures in the field of research security, and there will also be a discussion on the challenges of reconciling academic freedom with security interests in the new geopolitical situation. Prof. Dr. Ben Wagner (IT:U) will conclude the event with a lecture on knowledge security policy and the role of universities in preserving academic freedom.

The event will be simultaneously interpreted from Slovenian into English.

Please forward this invitation to anyone who might be interested in the content.
