Rudolfovo recognized as innovative: one gold, one silver, and one bronze award


Novo Mesto, June 20, 2025 – The Dolenjska and Bela Krajina Chamber of Commerce (GZDBK) has once again organized its traditional Innovation Day, showcasing the region's best innovations for 2025. In extremely strong competition and with the participation of numerous renowned companies such as Krka, Adria Mobil, Revoz, TPV, Iskra Pio, L-Tek, and others, a total of 34 innovative projects were submitted. Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Center Novo mesto achieved remarkable success, receiving three awards: gold, silver, and bronze. It is important to note that Rudolfovo was the only public research institution among all the organizations that submitted entries. This achievement not only confirms the quality of the institute's research work, but also highlights its key role as a bridge between science and the economy. In an environment dominated by strong companies, Rudolfovo proves that public science can directly contribute to innovation and regional development.

 

The Bronze award went to the MES+ERP digital platform, developed in collaboration between Rudolf and the company Datalab. It is the first Slovenian solution that comprehensively integrates production (MES) and business (ERP) systems into a single system, which is a key step in implementing the Industry 5.0 concept. This platform enables companies to better manage their production, increase competitiveness, and use resources more efficiently.

“With MES+ERP, we have provided companies with a comprehensive insight into their production and business processes, which helps them make faster and better decisions and contributes to sustainable development,” says Rok Struna, expert at Rudolfovo and co-creator of the MES+ERP solution.

 

The Silver Award went to the innovation helpAR, the first Slovenian application for remote assistance using augmented reality, which enables a direct connection to industrial machine controllers (PLCs). It was developed by an interdisciplinary team at Rudolf and is already in use in industry and agriculture. Key advantages include faster diagnostics, lower maintenance costs, and a reduced carbon footprint in industry.

“helpAR enables service technicians to receive expert assistance in real time, regardless of location, which means faster problem solving and greater efficiency,” emphasizes Rudolfov researcher Dr. Nika Brili, head of the helpAR project.


Gold award went to an innovation developed in collaboration with Krka, d. d., which uses robotics and artificial intelligence for accurate testing of the mechanical resistance of pharmaceutical tablets. This solution complements established methods and provides additional insight into the properties of tablets, thereby contributing to even higher quality pharmaceutical products.

Dr. Slavko Arh, researcher at Rudolfov and head of this project, emphasizes: “Our innovation brings higher reliability and repeatability of testing and significantly reduces costs and waste, which benefits both the company and end users.”

This success shows that science at Rudolfovo really comes into its own when it is applied in solutions that improve lives and create competitive advantages for the economy and a better environment for all residents of the region."  said Prof. Dr. Janez Povh, Director of Rudolfovo, upon receiving the awards.

 

The conclusion of the event confirmed the need for deeper cooperation between the economy and research, development, and educational institutions in order to jointly create a sustainable and successful future for the region and beyond.
