Rudolfovo Receives Silver and Bronze Awards for Innovations GZDBK 2026

Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto received two innovation awards at the Innovation Day of the Chamber of Commerce of Dolenjska and Bela krajina. Together with Robotina d.o.o., Rudolfovo received a silver award for the innovation “Advanced System for Analysing the Condition of Battery Strings in UPS Systems – BatteryIQ”, while together with Roletarstvo Medle d.o.o., it received a bronze award for the innovation “Laser Measurement System for Determining the Width of Profile Gaps on a Production Line.”

BatteryIQ: Intelligent Analysis of Battery Strings in UPS Systems

The BatteryIQ innovation, developed in cooperation between Rudolfovo and Robotina d.o.o., received a silver award. It is a solution for monitoring the health of batteries in UPS systems, or uninterruptible power supply systems, which are essential for the operation of data centres, telecommunications networks, airports and other critical infrastructure.

In such systems, timely detection of weakened or faulty battery cells is extremely important. Since the cells in a battery string are interconnected, even a single degraded cell can affect the operation of the entire system. If its capacity decreases, it discharges faster than the others, which can lead to additional strain, overheating, faster degradation and, in extreme cases, failure of the entire battery string. BatteryIQ addresses this challenge through advanced data analytics, statistical analysis and machine learning. The system monitors each individual cell, compares data with historical measurements and other cells in the system, and identifies deviations, signs of ageing and potential risks of failure.

The key innovation of the solution is that it upgrades existing battery monitoring systems into an intelligent failure prediction system. Instead of detecting a problem only during routine testing or after an actual outage, BatteryIQ enables much earlier warning. This is particularly important in data centres and other environments where uninterrupted infrastructure operation is critical.

Rudolfovo contributed expertise in software development, data analytics and artificial intelligence. Its researchers developed advanced algorithms for anomaly detection, battery degradation analysis and lifetime prediction, and also contributed to the development of the user interface.

In the next stages, the solution is expected to be expanded to new markets and areas of critical infrastructure. Further development of artificial intelligence will enable even more accurate failure prediction, while an extensive database of characteristics of different battery types will be developed. The goal is to establish BatteryIQ as a leading solution for intelligent battery system management.

Laser Measurement System for Real-Time Profile Control

The bronze award was presented to the innovation “Laser Measurement System for Determining the Width of Profile Gaps on a Production Line,” developed in cooperation between Rudolfovo and Roletarstvo Medle d.o.o. The solution enables real-time dimensional control of PVC profiles on a production line. During production, small deviations in the profile shape can occur due to changes in temperature, pressure, material or cooling. The gap between the profile edges is particularly important, as even a minor deviation can cause a blind to move incorrectly along the guide during installation.

The developed solution replaces manual measurement with an automated laser measurement system that continuously measures the width of the gap between the profile edges directly on the production line. Measurements are performed once per second, and the measured value is compared with the set target value. The system displays the status using a simple traffic-light indicator: green indicates a suitable profile, yellow warns that the value is approaching the limit, and red indicates a non-compliant profile. The user can set the permissible limits independently, while the system also enables an overview of measurement history, trends and periods in which deviations occurred.

The solution was developed specifically for Roletarstvo Medle and integrated into the existing production line without requiring structural changes. Its innovation lies in combining high technological precision with ease of use. The system enables extremely accurate measurement, while being designed so that users can monitor it intuitively and without complex additional procedures.

Rudolfovo contributed expertise in industrial automation, controller programming and digital data monitoring. Together with Roletarstvo Medle, the solution was tested in a real production environment, enabling the development of a practical system tailored to actual production needs.

In the next stages, the system is expected to be expanded, adapted and upgraded for additional production lines at Roletarstvo Medle. Rudolfovo also plans to adapt the solution for other companies where precise dimensional control is important, for example in the production of aluminium profiles, as well as in the automotive, construction and other industries.

The two awards confirm the importance of cooperation between research organisations and companies in developing solutions that address concrete industrial needs. Both innovations were created in close cooperation with industry and are aimed at improving the reliability, efficiency and digitalisation of processes.
