Science Captures the Rhythm of Life: A Series of Events for European Researchers’ Night

On Friday, 25 September 2026, Rudolfovo will organise a series of free events for curious visitors of all ages as part of the RhythmOfLife project: the Rudolfovo Open Day, a lecture on the use of 3D scanning in industry and cultural heritage preservation, and a Chess960 tournament.

What do natural rhythms, 3D scanning and chess with 960 different starting positions have in common? You can explore all three on Friday, 25 September 2026, during European Researchers’ Night, as part of the RhythmOfLife – Exploring the Rhythms of Nature and Human Life project, in which Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto participates.

To mark the occasion, we are organising a series of free events for curious visitors of all ages.

Rudolfovo Open Day

From 16:30 to 18:30, Rudolfovo will open the doors of its research laboratories at Podbreznik 15 in Novo mesto.

Visitors will be able to participate in scientific demonstrations and meet Novo mesto-based researchers while learning about their work. Five Rudolfovo research centres will present their activities in advanced technologies and digitalisation, the circular economy, technology transfer, entrepreneurship and intellectual property, and applied quantum computing.

3D Scanning: From Industry to Heritage

A lecture on 3D scanning will begin at 18:00 in the event atrium of the Miran Jarc Public Library in Novo mesto.

Participants will learn how an object is captured in three dimensions and how precise digital models are created from the collected measurements. They will also discover how 3D scanning is used in industry and in the digital documentation and preservation of cultural heritage objects. A moderated discussion will follow the lecture.

Chess960 Tournament: A Creative Take on Familiar Rules

A free Chess960 tournament, organised by Rudolfovo and the KRKA Novo mesto Chess Club, will also begin at 18:00 in the classroom of the Miran Jarc Public Library in Novo mesto.

Chess960 is a chess variant in which the initial arrangement of the pieces is selected from 960 possible starting positions. As players cannot rely solely on their knowledge of established openings, the game encourages independent thinking, the recognition of new patterns, adaptability and creativity. The tournament is open to beginners, recreational players and experienced chess players.
