Children explored the work of a researcher and the magical world of colours

As part of the project Exploring Rhythms in Nature and Human Life (Rhythm of Life), researcher Dr. Jelena Topić Božič visited three preschool groups in two units of Sevnica Kindergarten and introduced the children to the work of a scientist in a playful and practical way.

The children discovered the world of anthocyanins – natural pigments also found in red cabbage, which change colour depending on whether they come into contact with acidic or alkaline substances. Through a simple experiment, they observed what happens when baking soda, vinegar or lemon juice is added to red cabbage juice.

During the activity, the children also used basic laboratory equipment, such as test tubes and droppers, gaining their first insight into research work in a safe and age-appropriate way.

They were fascinated by the changing colours and felt like real scientists while carrying out the experiment. The visit showed that curiosity, observation and simple experiments can bring the world of science closer to even the youngest children and encourage them to explore nature and everyday phenomena around them.
